The three levels of reading a strike

The illusion of watching

Every coach watches their players. Watching is not the same as seeing. Seeing is not the same as reading. The distinction determines the precision of every diagnosis a coach will ever make.

Level One: The outcome eye

The untrained eye watches whether the ball went in, long or wide. Correction is often misapplied here because the outcome rarely identifies the architectural cause.

Level Two: The movement eye

The trained eye watches the body: hip rotation, shoulder turn, elbow position. This can produce useful corrections, but it still often sees the compensation rather than the inhibitor.

Level Three: The forensic eye

The forensic eye watches the hand, especially when it initiates relative to the rest of the chain. This is the eye La Transmission is built to develop.

Most coaches are watching the wrong part of the movement. Not because they are inattentive, but because nobody taught them where to look.
